You deserve to exist in your own story.
"We have had several sessions with Emily and we truly love her work! I love how she captures the moments and you aren’t just posing in front of the camera. She makes you feel so comfortable and the pictures that she catches are just WOW! I highly highly recommend using Emily Ricker for all your family photography needs.”

"I'll be honest, in the moment I was skeptical about lifestyle photos- with a 3 year old bringing all her "no's" and silliness and an unsettled newborn. Emily was just the sweetest, taking it all in stride and following their leads. She guided us through it with her gentle, open approach. It turns out some of my favorite photos are the ones that show their feelings and personality, and how we are perfect because of our "imperfections". Thank you for capturing these beautiful photos during a special time in our lives.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Home Session
-
A home session can be for newborns, pregnant mamas, or families. Pets are always welcome too.
-
Absolutely! Home is your safe place and where a lot of your core memories as a family are made. That is what makes it perfect.
-
It is definitely possible, and totally okay with me! I want them to be themselves so that means they don’t have to “behave” perfectly. I just ask that you keep it light hearted and not worry too much about the kids. I can handle them, I promise.
-
Sorry, but no. I believe that mamas deserve to exist in photos with their babies.
I will take portraits of newborns alone with parents close by, but baby will feel the most safe in your arms.
-
First, I will take a look around to assess the areas with the best light. We will use these spaces to shoot. I also like to make my way out onto the porch and the backyard.
We can also incorporate activities or routines that your family finds meaningful like reading, snuggling, baking, you name it.
For newborns, this may look like feedings, snuggling, and changing.
-
That is totally okay because most mama’s don’t, especially right after giving birth. I always try to flatter the mother as I am shooting and give guidance on what to do.
-
Newborns are the most sleepy 2 weeks after birth. However, I have done newborn sessions 1 month or 2 months after birth. Baby just might need more breaks or feedings because he or she will be awake more.
-
Chances are, your baby won’t cry the entire time. We will tend to whatever baby needs during the session though.
Birthplace Session
-
We will set a tentative date close to your due date. Once you go into labor, just give me a heads up via text. Then, once baby arrives, send a quick text and we will work out a time for me to stop by within 48 hours after birth.
-
Right after birth, you will be meeting your baby and beginning to fall in love. It is all so new, raw, and beautiful, a core memory moment, for sure. One you will want to remember.

Park Session
-
A park session is for families with children and pregnant mamas.
-
We will get some group portraits, but we can also incorporate meaningful activities like park play, fishing, chalk, or a picnic.
For pregnant mamas, this could be a pregnancy announcement or gender reveal.

Honestly, we might 1 or 2 shots like this, but those aren’t your real core memory moments. I aim to capture your family interacting, moving, and playing.
