When You Should Schedule Your Maternity Session near Lima, Ohio

This is a common question to get as a photographer because there is somewhat of a deadline. You want your beautiful bump to be showing. Yet, you don’t want to wait too long and miss the opportunity to catch it at all. If you are wondering about all the details surrounding your maternity photoshoot, I can help!

When should I reach out to a maternity photographer?

Planning ahead allows you to get on your favorite photographer's schedule, but also avoid any unnecessary stress. You can book as early as you are ready to. Typically, after the first trimester is a good time to schedule your session. Just be sure to leave at least a few weeks between scheduling and the session itself.

When do maternity photos occur?

I recommend getting maternity photos between the 28-32 week mark. This is when your bump should be showing and you should be feeling your best (hopefully). It also ensures that we get those pictures out of the way before any last minute prepping before your baby arrives. Yay!

When should I get pregnancy announcement photos?

These photography sessions can be done as soon as you would like, but again, anytime after the first trimester would be a good choice. You actually don’t have to have a visible bump at all. We can always incorporate your ultrasound pictures.

Why should I get professional maternity pictures?

Aside from the sentimental aspect of it, you could use the images on your baby shower invites! You could do a private gender reveal with your immediate family after the ultrasound between 18-22 weeks. You could also do a gender reveal earlier if you choose to find out the gender with an at-home blood test like SneakPeek. It will detect the gender as early as 6 weeks!

It would be so precious to get photos of the genuine reactions to finding out the gender of your baby. Finally, it would be lovely addition to your newborn photo album if you added some maternity photos as well.

Summary

  • Reach out to your maternity photographer after the first trimester (12 weeks).

  • Schedule your session between the 28-32 weeks mark.

  • You could do the photos earlier and use the images as a pregnancy announcement after the first trimester.

  • Alternatively, you could do a private gender reveal with your family after the ultrasound at 18-22 weeks or sooner with an at-home blood test like SneakPeek.

P.S. Your husband and kiddos are definitely invited to the session to capture this special time.
