Fun Fall Activities and Craft for Kids
With its crisp, cool air and cozy vibes, fall is such a great time to slow down and spend time with your family. I personally love fall and wanted to come up with a fun list of activities that your family can enjoy. If you are looking for inspiration for some things to do with your family this fall, here are some fun fall activities and crafts for kids that are simple, creative, and fun for the whole family.
Outdoor Fun in the Fall
Leaf Scavenger Hunt
Take your kids outside in your yard or to a local park for a colorful leaf scavenger hunt. See how many different colored leaves they can find. Let them find a variety of leaves in different sizes and shapes too. Once collected, keep those leaves for some of the craft ideas that are listed below!
Pumpkin Patch Adventures
I actually have never taken my kiddos to the pumpkin patch, but it is on my list of to-do’s. Lincoln Ridge Farms looks super fun and has all sorts of fun stuff to do!
They are open September 27 and 28th, every weekend in October, and November 1st! Their hours on Saturdays are 11-7 and on Sundays are 11-6.
Leaf Pile Jumping
Did you know you don’t actually have to rake your entire yard and get rid of the leaves? Insects hibernate in those leaves during the winter, so repurpose them for your garden, if you have one. Before you do, it doesn’t hurt to create a little pile for the kids to play in. As a kid, this was a core memory of mine for sure.
Fall Nature Walk and Nature Bingo
Head to your local park or just outside in your yard. Kendrick Woods would also be a great place to hike and explore this time of year! We love it there as a family. The address is 971 Defiance Trail N, Spencerville, OH 45887.
Bring along your nature bingo card which is a free printable you can grab right here! See which family member can get a bingo first.
Easy Fall Crafts for Kids
Leaf Rubbings
This is such an easy craft! All you need is crayons, white paper, and leaves. Use those leaves you found or go outside to find a good variety of leaves. The color doesn’t matter but you do want the ridges on the leaves to be prominent. Stick those leaves under a white sheet of paper with the bumpy side up. Use a black crayon to LIGHTLY shade directly over the top of the leaf. Then, remove the leaves and use fall colored crayons like yellow, green, orange, and red to color in your leaves. Here is a visual for you on pinterest.
Leaf Bugs
Here is another leaf craft. Glue the leaves to the white piece of paper with plenty of space between each leaf. Add legs to the sides of the leaves and eyes to the top with a black marker or crayon. There ya go: cute little leaf bugs!
Play-doh Monster Play
Again, such an easy and fun idea. You just need some playdoh and accessories from your crafting supplies. Here are some examples: googly eyes, pipe cleaners, tooth picks, confetti shapes, gems, sticks, or dried pasta. Lay it all out for the kids. All they have to do is roll the play-dough into balls, add eyes, and create their own monster.
Monster Making
Same idea as the play-doh, but with paper! Get some colored construction paper in black and other colors. Cut out different shapes like a big shape for the monster’s head and a small black shape for the mouth. Cut out strips and smaller shapes in different colors or let your kiddo practice cutting. White triangles make good teeth. Then, let them assemble their monster. Have them glue the head down, the mouth, and add googly eyes. They can add strips for arms or legs. Check out the craft here on Pinterest.
Pumpkin Decorating ( but make it kid-safe )
Use whatever you want here like stickers, paint, glitter, or googly eyes. Not sure what to paint, have your kiddos do fingerprint flowers with 5 finger prints and then a center or little fingerprint ghosts. Just use a black permanent marker to add the ghost's face once it is all dry.
**Also, just so you know, if you get washable paint, it will wash off in the rain. We learned that the hard way.
Cozy Indoor Fun For Kids
Fall baking with Kids
Let the kids stir, pour, and measure anything you want whether it is fall themed or not! Baking with kids is fun and educational. Mess making is encouraged.
Fall themed story-time
Gather up all the fall themed books you have and cuddle up on the couch for story time. If you don’t have any, take your kiddos over to the library and check some fall themed books out to switch things up a bit. Don’t want to lose them at home or forget to return them, then just read them at the library.
Family Movie Night
I love a good family movie night and there are so many Halloween movies out there to pick from. Need some inspiration? Here is a good list of kid-friendly scary movies for you. Get some candy corn, chocolate, and caramel popcorn to make it extra fall-ish.
Summary
That’s it! It doesn’t have to be complicated. Simple traditions become lasting memories and those memories are being made right now. I hope this gives you some inspiration for some family fun for you and the kids.
